In 1999, the then State Minister of the Republic of Türkiye, Abdulhaluk Mehmet Çay, travelled to Mongolia. On the occasion of the state visit, on 2 October 1999, DEİK and the National Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Mongolia signed a Letter of Intent in Ulanbator regarding the establishment of a DEİK/Türkiye-Mongolia Business Council. Two years later, during the 3rd Joint Economic Commission (KEK) Meeting, held on 24-25 September 2001, the Business Council Establishment Agreement was signed and the first Joint Meeting was organised in Istanbul. The Council’s activities consist mainly of high-level bilateral contacts. The Council is focussed on informing Mongolian and Turkish businesspeople about investment and trade opportunities in the respective counterpart country, and on identifying obstacles in the way of deeper economic and trade ties between the two countries, for which the Council suggests solutions.
The National Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Mongolia, headed by Chamber Chairman Enkhtuvshin Dashtseren, acts as Counterpart Organisation. In recent times, the Council has increased its sector-based visits to Mongolia, in an attempt to encourage Turkish entrepreneurs to invest in the country and exploit the cooperation opportunities it offers.
