The main reasons behind the establishment of the DEİK/Türkiye-Switzerland Business Council in 2000 were the request by Turkish companies to develop new market-entry strategies for Switzerland; the problems faced by Swiss companies in Türkiye. At the same time, two countries decided to hold Mixed Economic Committee Meetings to which the Business Council was invited as a natural member. The legal system of the Republic of Türkiye is based to a large extent on the Swiss model which facilitates cooperation in matters of arbitration and debt management. Other focus areas of the Council are renewable energy, environmental technologies, the automotive sector, health and tourism with particular emphasis on SME cooperation.
