The Business Council was established in 1994. Its objectives were to ensure mutual and balanced economic and trade cooperation, to identify areas of cooperation, to study their feasibility, to find suitable local and foreign companies for joint ventures, to create the proper conditions for such ventures, to ensure the exchange of information, to identify obstacles and work on their removal, to promote economic, cultural, political and social ties in order to create a conducive environment for mutually beneficial and strong economic ties, and to encourage joint investments in third countries. Today, the objectives are more or less still the same. On 23 May 2016, an Agreement of Understanding was signed with Enterprise Ireland which provided a new impulse for the activities of the Türkiye-Ireland Business Council.
The Council’s work is currently focussed on steering commercial activities that are run via Great Britain into direct relationships, on stimulating the establishment of joint ventures, on developing cooperation in the areas of industrial and technological collaboration, infrastructure, energy and services, on encouraging joint participation in EU projects and joint ventures in third countries, as well as on promoting business and political relations.
