The DEİK/Türkiye-Afghanistan Business Council was established in 2002 as part of the Eurasia Business Councils. Turkish contractors played an active role in the reconstruction of Afghanistan after years of war. They also dominated the Executive Committee of the Business Council.
One of the main problems facing Afghanistan is a high unemployment rate and a lack of qualified labour. For Turkish companies operating in the country in the construction and engineering business this means, they have to adapt if they want to benefit from their investments also in the future. To alleviate the problem, DEİK and İNTES have agreed to cooperate in offering vocational training courses in the host country.
Afghanistan is endowed with rich marble and ore deposits, while Türkiye has the knowledge and knowhow of operating mining businesses. The Business Council makes great efforts to convince Turkish mining companies to invest in the country.
