The DEİK/Türkiye-Afghanistan Business Council was established in 2002 as part of the Eurasia Business Councils. Turkish contractors played an active role in the reconstruction of Afghanistan after years of war. They also dominated the Executive Committee of the Business Council.
During the Republican period, initiatives were undertaken to support Turkish companies operating in the construction and contracting sector in Afghanistan and, in order to address the shortage of skilled construction labor that would be needed in the coming years within the framework of reconstruction in Afghanistan—where unemployment had reached serious levels—to establish vocational training courses in Afghanistan, to be activated when appropriate conditions were met, in cooperation with İNTES.
Afghanistan is endowed with rich marble and ore deposits, while Türkiye has the knowledge and knowhow of operating mining businesses. The Business Council makes great efforts to convince Turkish mining companies to invest in the country.
Since 2021, the Business Council has been organizing various meetings and events to draw attention to Afghanistan’s rich natural resources and investment opportunities—particularly in the energy and construction sectors—and to contribute to the expansion of trade between Türkiye and Afghanistan.
