The Turkish side of the DEİK/Türkiye-Denmark Business Council took its first step in 1992. It was followed by various meetings and seminars organised in Denmark with associations of the country’s business community. The Business Council was officially established in 1999 in the context of the “Danish-Turkish Cooperation Day” organised in Istanbul. The founding protocol was signed by Ömer Perçinel, Founding Chairman of the Council, and Svend Henriksen, Deputy CEO of the Confederation of Danish Industries.

The Council’s activities are focussed on the sectors of energy, contracting, biotechnology, furniture and textiles, with Danish companies contributing technical information, expertise, design work, R&D capacities and technological knowhow to the partnership, and the Turkish side bringing in labour, logistical advantages, manufacturing capacities and production experiences. Besides providing a platform for productive partnerships, the Council also works on the promotion of the “green economy” concept in industry, agriculture and the construction sector.

The Business Council devotes activities both to large corporations and to small and medium-sized enterprises (SME).
