DEİK/Türkiye-Latvia Business Council’s establishment process was initiated in 1994 which was mediated by the Embassy of the Republic of Turkey where the Development Agency of Latvia was identified as Counterpart Organisation. The Establishment Agreement was signed on 4 June 1997 in Riga on the occasion of a state visit by the then Chairman of the Republic of Türkiye, Süleyman Demirel, to the Baltic States.
Trade volume between Türkiye and Latvia is very low because there are no contacts between the business communities of the two countries and they are not aware of the potential. For this reason, the main focus of the Council is promotion in Latvia and Türkiye of the economic possibilities the other country has to offer as well as encouragement of economic and social ties.
