Prior to 1989, Poland had completed four thermal power stations in Türkiye whose price was to be paid with Turkish exports to Poland. For this purpose, special accounts were opened with the Central Bank of the Republic of Türkiye. Those accounts played an important role in the expansion of the countries’ bilateral trade volume. In 1991, DEİK and the Polish Chamber of Commerce signed an agreement on the establishment of a Business Council which further stimulated Turkish-Polish economic relations.
The Council serves as platform for representatives of the business communities of both countries and works on the advancement of bilateral trade and an increase in investments. The Council also provides information on the current market situation and on business opportunities, and engages in finding suitable partner companies for joint ventures.
Poland has become Türkiye’s most important trading partner in Central Europe. With a population of 40 million, the country is a large market and well-positioned to facilitate easy access to other regional markets. This makes it an ideal location for Turkish companies. The Council supports the development of this potential and encourages mutual investments. The main focus areas of the Council are energy, renewable energy, contracting, the automotive industry and its supplying industry, health tourism, livestock farming, agriculture, infrastructure projects, environmental and waste management, chemicals and logistics.
