Since its establishment in 1988, the DEİK/Türkiye-United Kingdom Business Council has aimed to identify and enhance areas of mutual and balanced economic and commercial cooperation between Türkiye and the United Kingdom, bring together suitable Turkish and British companies for joint ventures, contribute to the creation of favourable conditions for such partnerships, identify obstacles to cooperation and work towards their removal, and strengthen the commercial ties between the two countries. The main focus of the Business Council has been to support Turkish exports to the United Kingdom and attract British investments to Türkiye.
In the 1990s, the Business Council placed greater emphasis on organising events and delivering services for SMEs. While continuing its activities in London and other industrial and commercial centres, the Business Council organised both traditional Joint Business Council Meetings and thematic and sector-focused meetings.
The priorities of the Business Council include the development of bilateral trade and investment within the framework of the Türkiye-United Kingdom Free Trade Agreement and support for the further advancement of the Agreement; the strengthening of industry, technology and innovation-oriented cooperation between the two countries, including in third countries; the deepening of cooperation in infrastructure, energy, manufacturing and services; support for engagement in European and international programmes and projects; and the organisation of activities that strengthen dialogue and cooperation between the business communities and relevant public institutions of the two countries. In this context, the Business Council brings together business representatives from both countries through Business Forums, Roundtable Meetings, Delegation Visits and sectoral meetings.
