In the 1980s, Türkiye entered into a new phase in its relations with the USSR. In 1984, a natural gas agreement was signed and a Programme on Economic, Trade, Scientific and Technical Cooperation. This was followed, in the years 1986 to 1990, by agreements on the exchange of various goods. The spirit of reform that prevailed in the USSR in those years facilitated the access of Turkish companies to this new market.
